Playing IP as Coldcaller
Flatting on the BU vs donk leads
-we can call our backdoor draws (both straight draws and FD) [but DO NO OVERFLOAT]
-> only if we think our opponent is bluffing at a high frequency + their bet is small (1/3)
-IF WE THINK WE'LL BE RAISING OUR SETS, WE SHOULD ALSO RAISE WITH SOME BLUFFS (on dry boards) => need to include some raising range with our sets (when stacks are deep)
[we should use our bottom pairs (good blockers) and turn it into a bluff]
-USE HANDS THAT BLOCK OUR OPPONENT'S VALUE RANGE
-when we hit 2nd pair on the turn and villain still bets into us (bigger) and on a dry board
-> we can overfold
THE BIGGER OUR OPPONENT BET, THE LESS FREQUENCY WE SHOULD RAISE
ALWAYS GO STRAIGHT FOR VALUE (it doesn't matter against weak opponents)
- do not go for fancy checks-> just go for value (unless vs good regs)
- if villain is never bluffing: we can overfold (or go very big for value)
- vs bad regs and recs we want to play EXPLOITATIVE
-> just play our hand max EV
IF WE KNOW VILLAIN IS NEVER FOLDING THE RIVER: DO NOT BLUFF
WHENEVER DRAWS GET THERE AND VILLAIN DONK: WE FOLD
ALWAYS CONNECT THE DOTS + KNOW OUR RELATIVE HAND-STRENGTH
FLOATING
-vs high VPIP/PFR gap opponents who are flatting a lot IP:
-> we can double barrel on dry boards (eg K62rb or K55) as their calling range on the flop are often too wide [THERE ARE MANY OPPONENTS LIKE THIS]
-always let go of the worst hands in your range (think of what hands are in your range)
In general:
-float more on static boards vs dynamic boards
-> we want to be careful on dynamic boards: the overcard that comes on the turn will make villain more likely to bet as it favours their range
WE ALWAYS THINK OF WHICH HANDS IN OUR RANGE WE'RE ALREADY FLOATING/CALLING- so if we're calling with A highs etc our calling range will be very weak
[choose the best backdoor draws]- DO NOT OVERFLOAT
bet/check/bet by villain is often VALUE
however, if we float flop- check back turn and villain checks river again- WE BET VERY WIDE ON THE RIVER AS HIS RANGE IS SUPER CAPPED
[be careful when A or K hits the river, we should be careful as it would hit their range]
STOP BLUFFCATCHING TOO WIDE (ON FLOP, TURN AND RIVER]
DO NOT REACH THE RIVER WITH HANDS YOU SHOULD HAVE FOLDED ON THE FLOP
-proper flop frequency will automatically make life easier on turn and river
MULTIWAY
-the bigger villain cbet multiway, the stronger their range is
-bet your vulnerable top pair if checked to
-bet 2nd pair on low/mid flops
-check 2nd pair on highcard flop
*BE CAREFUL WHEN VILLAIN CHECK CALL FLOP, AND BET BIG RIVER*
"WHAT HANDS AM I COMING TO THE RIVER WITH"
+ "WHERE IS OUR HAND IN THAT RANGE?"
BLIND vs BLIND
-we have to look at how wide our opponent is opening from SB (RFI& + OPR sizing)
-> if villain is raising very wide, we can bluff catch wider + go thinner for value + go broke thinner
-also we can see how his range is connecting with the board texture
eg. villain with 30% from SB will not connect on low card boards therefore we can bluff them at a higher frequency on those boards + we can go thinner for value as his range is not connected to the board
[when ranges are wider- we usually do not slowplay on the flop: RAISE OUR VALUE HANDS STRAIGHT AWAY]
Bluff Raising Blind vs Blind
-hands that have equity when called (eg. overcards with BDFD and BDSD)
-overcard + gutshot [we do not mind if we get 3bet flop and have to fold]
-strong draws (flush draws + straight draws)
eg. Q4o on J65 with BDFD and BDSD
-> we can bluff-raise as we can keep barrelling on many turn cards (any card that give us more equity) [IF WE HAVE A 3 CARD STRAIGHT, WE CAN BLUFF RAISE] (bet/fold)
-also, we want to bluff raise BIG in order to maximize our fold equity + we would play the same way with our value hands
-here we want to raise our weakest draws (BD draws)
-we want to call with our higher equity draws (OESD)
-however, we also want to raise our strongest draws (FD) which can call a re-raise
PRACTICAL HANDS
-connect the dots!
-"does small blind have many 5x here?"-> if not we can raise our top pair for value
-we can target very low equity hands to call by betting small on the flop
-if we think villain is not folding a worse hand- we can go thin for value
CONNECT THE DOTS- before making any decisions
-what type of player are we facing?
-what happened each street?
THINK ABOUT OUR RANGE
-how many combos of value do we have? eg. "we have 16 combos of KQ, 9 combos of AJ, 9 combos of AT and 9 combos of AJ"
-after finding out roughly our value range, assign a bluffing range in order to balance it.
-> some spots, just FD will not be enough therefore we should start bluffing bottom pair etc.
SOME SPOTS OUR OPPONENTS ARE JUST NOT BLUFFING ENOUGH
-eg. AJTss board vs donk PFA lead: we can overfold our weak top pairs as it is impossible to find bluffs (ALWAYS USE LOGIC): there are not many hands they can use to bluff with (eg. QT or KT would be checking)
WE CAN SOMETIMES USE 22 AND 33 TO MAKE 77 AND 88 FOLD ON VERY HIGH BOARDS
BEFORE DECIDING TO BET: ALWAYS THINK WHAT HANDS DO WE HAVE IN OUR VALUE RANGE AND WHAT HANDS DO WE HAVE IN OUR BLUFFING RANGE?
-if we already have many hands in our bluffing range then we can choose not to bluff with our certain hands.
"when villain check twice on a high card board- we can assume he has many show down value hands in his range therefore we would adjust our range accordingly"
-always think on the river: where are we in our range?
-> if we're at the very bottom of our range: we should turn it into a bluff
ON THE RIVER EVEN OOP- WE CAN START VALUE BETTING OOP IF WE THINK VILLAIN HAS MANY SHOWDOWN VALUE HANDS THAT WILL CALL OUR BET
-use weaker hands to bluffcatch
ALWAYS CONNECT THE DOTS
+ THINK IN TERMS OF RANGES
-"if villain check twice, we can now go for value"
-"villain bets twice multiway as PFA- we can overfold"
Example: 92o hand
-"if villain has a strong hand on low boards, they would size it up"
-"even though T8 got there, villain still has many second and third pairs which will call our bet"
-"the flush draw missed, so we have many more bluffs in our range therefore we can shove the river for value to get called be worse"
-GO THINNER FOR VALUE VS CALLING STATIONS
Try NOT to float too wide vs fish as they'll often barrel us off the pot therefore we can implement a
-RAISING RANGE for our floats
WE USUALLY LET GO OF OUR 2ND PAIR WHEN PFA BETS IN MULTIWAY
CONNECT THE DOTS
-"villain bets the flop, check the turn and check the river- he often have an A here"
-> make the most optimal decision based on that information
ANALYSE:
- 3 BLIND VS BLIND BLUFFRAISE
-3 FLOATS AS COLD CALLER VS VILLAIN'S CBET
